Usually; in JavaScript, to get an element by ID you would do:

document.getElementById('example')

But there is a shorter way:

This behavior is called β€œNamed access on the Window object”. It was originally added by Internet Explorer and eventually was implemented by all other browsers simply for compatibility with sites that are dependent on this behavior.
